Sankat Mochan Temple: Situated at a distance of seven kilometers from Shimla, you can reach this spot with its famous Hanuman Temple on foot or by car.

Indian Institute of Advance Studies: Situated on a hillock west of Shimla this was formerly the palace of British Viceroy built in 1888. The huge, fortress- like building with its spectacular English- renaissance great stone structure has six story's and a magnificent reception. On Sunday only the grounds around the magnificent building are open.
Jakhu Temple: Dedicated to the God Hanuman, the temple is at an altitude of 2455 meters, it is two kilometers from The Ridge, and it is also approachable by vehicular road from Sanjauli. It offers a panoramic view over the surrounding valleys, out to the snow capped peaks and over Shimla itself. There are many monkeys around the temple.
Glen: This is a popular picnic spot four kilometers from Shimla. A stream flows through the forest here and is approachable through the descent Kennedy House.
Chadwick Falls: The falls are sixty-seven meters high and are at their best during the monsoons. They are seven kilometers from Shimla and are approachable through Summer Hill.
Prospect Hill: It's fifty minutes walk from Boileauganj to this popular picnic spot with fine view over the surroundings country-side and the temple of Kamna Devi. It's five kilometers from Shimla.
State Museum: The nice little museum is at an hours walk from The Mall, it holds a rich display of states cultural, artistic and archaeological heritage. The Indian miniatures exhibited here include pictures from the Kangra school.
Kufri: It's a popular ski resort and is at a distance of sixteen kilometers from Shimla. With thick woods around it offers a panoramic view of 2000 miles of the great Himalyan ranges.
Mashobra: A thickly wooded suburb is pleasant enough for forest walks around this picnic spot. It's at a distance of 13 Kms from Shimla.
Craignano: Just at a distance of 03 Kms from Mashobra and 16 Kms from Shimla, once the estate of an Italian confectioner, and The Fruit Research Center is also here.
Naldehra: It is at a distance of 23 Kms from Shimla. There is a thick cedar forest, attractive picnic spot and sixteen hole golf course. Fagu :There is a very fine view from this spot and has a lot of snow in winters. Its 22 Kms from Shimla.
Tattapani: On the right banks of the river Sutlej are the hot water sulphur spring. On a motorable road, Tattapani is 51 Kms. from Shimla. This sulphur spring has a curative power.
Chabba: It's on the road to Tattapani and is 53 Kms. from Shimla. There is the one of the oldest hydroelectric power project, now days it is famous for river rafting.
Chail: 43 Kms. From Shimla, formerly it was the summer capital of Patiala State. Located on a spur, Chail affords a splendid view, on a clear day, of the valley through which the river Sutlej flows, over looking on the same time both Kasauli and Shimla. On the other side rise the massive the Himalyan ranges, spectacular in sun and snow, Chail is built on three hills one of which is toped by Chail Palace and one by the ancient temple. Maharaja Bhupendra Singh of Patiala loved to play cricket and he developed the highest pitch in the world.
Narkanda: 64 Km. North of Shimla, at an altitude of 2700 meter, is this developed ski resort, popular spot for viewing the Himalayas particularly from the 3300 meter Hatu peak. |
